how electrical energy is lost in buildings

In almost all commercial buildings, electrical consumers generate so called reactive power components in the power grid.

These arise mainly from:

  • electric motors
  • compressors
  • air conditioning systems
  • refrigeration units
  • electronic power supplies

Reactive power causes additional currents to flow in the grid without contributing directly to the actual work performed by the devices.

This leads to several effects:

  • higher electricity consumption from the grid
  • additional losses in cables and transformers
  • increased load on the electrical infrastructure

In many commercial installations, the power factor (cos φ) is therefore often only 0.85 to 0.90.

the solution: m31 energy optimization

The M31 technology is installed at the grid connection point and optimizes the energy flow of the entire system. The goal is to make reactive power components usable and reduce electricity drawn from the power grid.

This is achieved through the interaction of:

  • specially developed power chokes with a defined air gap
  • multi stage compensation electronics
  • a specially developed power control system

Electromagnetic conversion effect

Magnetic power chokes generate a controlled field that interacts with the currents in the grid. This reduces reactive current components and stabilizes the energy flow.

The following effects occur:

  • reduction of reactive current components
  • improvement of the current waveform
  • stabilization of energy flow in the grid
  • more efficient use of the available electrical energy

Part of the reactive power can therefore be used to supply connected loads.

Automatic power adjustment

The system operates fully automatically and continuously adjusts its output to the energy demand. Several compensation stages are activated depending on the load.

Typical process:

  • up to 6 kW → first compensation stage
  • up to 15 kW → second compensation stage
  • above this → third compensation stage

Switching takes place automatically within a few seconds.

Installation in the building

The M31 system is installed in the main distribution board or in a central sub distribution board and connected directly to the main supply line. This allows it to influence the entire energy flow of the connected electrical loads.

Installation time:
Approx. 4–6 hours, without intervention in existing machines.

Typical savings

Depending on the type of electrical consumers, savings of 40% to over 50% of electrical energy can be achieved.
